Corinna's Weight Watchers email 10-10-14

Hello all blogging followers,
I haven't checked in recently. I'm working on staying healthy and keeping up with my children each week. I've been doing a good job of maintaining my Weight Watchers goal. I still haven't gotten those few stubborn pounds off to feel just right but I know if I wasn't trying at all, it would be waaaaaaaaay worse. I feel good. I'm working out regularly. I'm still tracking every bite. I'm doing just about everything right. I just eat a few too many points each week to put me into maintenance mode. I'm going to keep working at it. I had a loss last week. I'll be going to my WW meetings soon to see what this week will bring. I think it will be a maintenance week. Here is my email that I sent to my WW members yesterday.
Have a healthy day and feel good about it!
Corinna

Hello Weight Watchers Friends,

LAST WEEK - Better Together

I hope you left the meeting last week knowing that you are not alone in your journey. We had some fun getting to know each other and seeing that we have many of the same triumphs and struggles. We can leverage the collective energy and motivation of others in the meeting room to help each other achieve our next level of success. I have no doubt that many of you will be achieving that next level soon. Our meetings provide the accountability, support and inspiration that we need to keep going. I love how supportive you all are of each other.

ROUTINE OF THE MONTH

All month we talked about the best ways to get to a simple ReStart. It was a great, motivational and inspirational month in the meeting room. I've seen a lot of great restarts happening.

SALES

This week we are having one of our most popular sales. Snack bars are on sale for $3.95. That includes Aloha Almond, Dark Chocolate Chunk, Berry-licious Cashew Chew and Sweet & Salty Toffee Twist Snack Bars. The Crunchy Snacks are also on sale for $3.95. This includes Cheddar Twists, Chili Lime Multigrain Crisps, Honey Mustard Pretzel Thins, Popped Barbeque Potato Crisps, Popped Cinnamon Swirl Crisps, Popped Sour Cream & Onion Crisps and White Cheddar Popcorn Crisps. That's quite a list of pre-portioned snacks you have to choose from!

This week one of my favorite tools is also on sale. The Electronic Food Scale is on sale for $34.95. This handy gadget not only weighs your food but tells you how many PointsPlus Values that food is too! My kids even use my food scale to make sure they are getting the correct portion size. I'm starting them young!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

I love making soup at this time of the year. Here's a great recipe.

Prep time: 20 min
Cook time: 30 min
Other time: 0 min
Serves: 8
The key to thickening this soup without flour? Pureeing some of the beans before cooking it. You'll love the stick-to-your-ribs texture that results.

Ingredients

1 spray(s) cooking spray
1 medium uncooked onion(s), finely chopped
4 clove(s) (medium) garlic clove(s), minced
45 oz canned black beans, undrained, divided (three 15 oz cans)
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, or to taste
1 tsp ground cumin
14 1/2 oz fat free chicken broth, or vegetable broth
10 oz canned tomatoes with green chilis
11 oz canned yellow corn, drained

Instructions

  • Coat bottom of a large stockpot with cooking spray. Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring frequently, until onions are soft but not brown, about 5 minutes.
  • Place one can of beans in blender; add sautéed onion mixture, red pepper flakes and cumin. Cover and blend on high until smooth, about 30 seconds. Pour mixture back into stockpot.
  • Place second can of beans and broth in blender and puree until smooth; add to stockpot.
  • Stir third can of beans (do not puree first), tomatoes and green chilies, and corn into stockpot. Bring to a boil, lower heat to medium and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes. Yields about 1 1/2 cups of soup per serving.

EXTRA SUPPORT

In last week's meeting I told you all that I started a closed Facebook group for you all to get some extra support throughout the week between meetings. I have since shut down that group and joined another one that was already in existence. Several of your meeting room WW members have joined it too. Check it out. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/477981115594844/
It is the Weight Watchers Shorewood group. You will need to ask to be invited since it is a closed group. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

THIS WEEK - Be the Boss of Your World

Environments are bigger and more inclusive than many might think - they include the people we spend time with, the things we do, and the places we go. The levels of change are like an ecosystem - making changes to an environment might help us make meaningful changes to other levels of change. Some simple ways to make challenging environments easier will be our main focus this week. You are going to learn about how you do change and how you can change. This will be another powerful meeting!

I keep forgetting to post my emails!

I send out an email to my WW members once every couple of weeks or so and I keep forgetting to post them here. Here is the one I sent today. Sorry there is not much time to post more here these days.
Life is good though. Hope you are all well.

Hello Weight Watchers Friends,

LAST WEEK - Give Yourself a Break

Success is more likely when a little kindness is applied to the Plan. A little relief may be overdue from time to time. Being hard on yourself isn't an effective long-term motivator. We left last week's meeting with some positive messages to keep with us all week. Bring in some more positive messages this week to your meeting to share with us.

ROUTINE OF THE MONTH

Know how you're going to be active tomorrow. Are you setting a date with yourself to exercise? Keep your appointments and see the results.

SALES

This is the last week that you can take advantage of your Ace Your Summer Challenge rewards. If you earned all of your bravo stickers for August you can get the WW Food Scale or the Member Success Kit for $10 off. That's only $29.95 for 2 of our best WW tools. Let me know at the meeting if you want to know more about either of these products.

Also, for the next 2 weeks we are having some great promotions. If you don't already have a monthly pass, you can sign up for monthly pass and get a success kit free. If you already have a monthly pass, you can bring in a friend with you to join and you will get a free month added to your monthly pass. To take advantage of this promotion, you must click invite a friend online on the top of your etools screen.

Prep time: 12 min
Cook time: 15 min
Other time: 0 min
Serves: 4
Sometimes simple is best. Just a few seasonings accentuate the natural flavors of sweet tomatoes and roasted green beans.

Ingredients

3 spray(s) olive oil cooking spray
4 cup(s) uncooked green snap beans, trimmed
2 cup(s) grape tomatoes, or cherry tomatoes, cut in half (or quartered, if large)
1/4 cup(s) basil, fresh, cut into ribbons, divided
2 tsp minced garlic, or less to taste
1/2 tsp table salt, or more to taste
1/4 tsp black pepper, freshly ground, or more to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450ºF. Coat a large roasting pan with cooking spray.
  • Place green beans in a single layer in prepared pan and coat with cooking spray. Roast until desired doneness, stirring once or twice, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine tomatoes, 2 tablespoons of basil, garlic, salt and pepper; set aside.
  • When green beans are finished, remove from oven and spoon tomato mixture into pan; toss thoroughly. Serve hot, room temperature or chilled, topped with remaining 2 tablespoons of basil. Yields about 1 cup per serving.

Notes

  • This is the perfect side for a burger, grilled chicken or steak.

It's also delicious added to marinara sauce and then tossed with pasta and shredded cheese.

TRUE CONFESSIONS

After a maintenance summer I am ready for a losing fall. For the past 2 weeks I have had a loss at the scale and I am projecting a loss again this week.
I've had to make several changes in my life these past few weeks and I'm glad to see that they haven't caused a gain. Many times changes in my life seem to upset my rhythm and my plan takes a hiatus. This time the changes have made me want to stick to my plan even more.

Some of the changes have been pretty big. For the first time I put 2 of my children into traditional school! I have always homeschooled my children so this is a big change. That has changed my work schedule and home routines. Two of my other children are still staying home for school but they are being virtual schooled so for the first time in 10 years I am not homeschooling any children. I could let this get to me emotionally and eat to fill the absence of homeschooling in my life, but I've taken it to empower me. I feel great. This is my school year. This is the school year in which I will lose those last pounds I have been wrestling with for the past 3 years. I'm looking forward to great changes!

*******************************************************************************************
My true confessions are getting boring and old. Who would like to take this spot over for future emails? I would be happy to put your true confessions in this email. You could take it over for a month, two, three or more. You can play it by ear. When you feel your true confessions have run their course, we can look for someone else. Let me know by email or in the meeting room if you are interested in owning this blog spot for a while.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE

“Every person needs to take one day away.  A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future.  Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence.  Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for.  Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”

THIS WEEK - What's In, What's Out
Change can be invigorating! We can consciously decide what is dragging us down that we want to leave behind. Change doesn't have to be scary - it can be the very thing we need to get off of a plateau. Be at your meeting this week to discover how change can work for you.

Is .8 enough?

Hello Weight Watchers Friends,

LAST WEEK - When Plateaus Strike

Plateaus are common and not necessarily undesirable. What creates plateaus and how to recognize that we are in one are very important things to learn. We learned those things in this meeting. Methods that will help us become plateau "busters" or "maintainers" are varied but many work because we know what is causing our plateau after a little deep research.

ROUTINE OF THE MONTH

Ask Yourself: Is this worth the PointsPlus Values? Keep asking yourself this question each meal and snack, and you will see the results on the scale that you are looking for. This week we will introduce a new routine.

CELEBRATIONS

We had some wonderful weight losses this past week. Spring is trying to come and we are going to be ready for it with these great numbers.

The 8:00 meeting lost 31 pounds. That's .58 pounds per person.  We also had lots of great awards!

The 9:30 meeting lost 11.8 pounds which was .51 pounds per person. We had one person reaching their 10% target and many other great awards!

Welcome to all of our new members. You will be losing weight to add to those totals soon too. We look forward to seeing you all again next week to join our lively groups.

SALES

There are no sales this week except for some specials that you may see marked in the meeting room on the individual packages. The packages that are individually marked are either discontinued or expiring in less than a month. Take advantage of those special prices to try some new goodies.

TRUE CONFESSIONS

In the meeting last week I shared that I gained a pound the week before I and actually got a round of applause. That's right, you gave me accolades for gaining weight. Although I was confused I completely understand. It's nice to know that the person leading your meetings is just as human as you are. I can assure you, I am just as human as all of you and make mistakes too. I am grateful that when I make these mistakes, Weight Watchers is there to help me correct them.

I corrected several of them this week. I still was not perfect but I was better and most weeks I feel that better is all I can ask of myself. I lost .8 pounds this week. Because of the mistake of eating too much at my 3rd and final Easter celebration I could have lost more but I am happy with my .8 loss. I was able to have my few indulgences, feel satisfied but feel healthy on the scale. Those less than one pound losses will continue to add up to full pounds and I will then be back to where I want to be.

I was asked last week by someone why I am still trying to lose weight. I am at my goal as a free lifetime member but I still miss that cushion that I had between my goal and my weight. I am trying to earn back that cushion and lose some of the cushion around my waist.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE

"When we make progress quickly, it feeds our emotions. Then, when there's a period of waiting or we hit a plateau, we find out how committed we really are and whether we're going to see things through to the finish or quit." -Joyce Meyer

THIS WEEK - Replay Your Day

Reflecting on the day's progress can reinforce behaviors that we want to see our of ourselves. Taking time to review what's important can keep us focused on those priorities. Great habits start from great thoughts. This week will discuss those great thought and how we can make them great habits too.

Satisfaction Secret

Hello Weight Watchers Friends,

LAST WEEK - Satisfaction Secret

Fiber's role in weight loss, satiety and digestion is incredibly important. It may be hard to incorporate fiber into your diet but it's completely possible and will help you in so many ways. Many fiber-rich foods are also Weight Watchers Power Foods, thus making them easier to incorporate. They can be incorporated whether you are following Simple Start, Simply Filling or Tracking against your Daily Target.

ROUTINE OF THE MONTH

Ask Yourself: Is this worth the PointsPlus Values? Keep asking yourself this question each meal and snack, and you will see the results on the scale that you are looking for.

CELEBRATIONS

We had some wonderful weight losses this past week. Spring is trying to come and we are going to be ready for it with these great numbers.

The 8:00 meeting lost 30 pounds. That's .88 pounds per person.  We also had 1 person reaching their 5% target, 1 person reaching lifetime and many other great awards!

The 9:30 meeting lost 38.6 pounds which was 1.4 pounds per person. We had one person reaching their 10% target and many other great awards!

Welcome to all of our new members. You will be losing weight to add to those totals soon too. We look forward to seeing you all again next week to join our lively groups.

SALES

This week's sale is always a popular one and it's only for one week so come prepared to stock up on your WW cookbooks. My favorite part about them is that they tell you the serving size and PointsPlus value so you can't go wrong when counting your points if you follow the recipe. They make my meal planning so incredibly easy. They are on sale for 25% off and the last day is Saturday, April 26th. There are 2 price points. The ones that are normally $9.95 are on sale for $7.95 and the ones that are normally $14.95 are on sale for $11.95. They are such a great deal and we have a few new ones that have come out in the last couple of months.

TRUE CONFESSIONS

I'm sorry I've been so spotty with these emails. I try to send them each week but I truly find that's it's hard to carve out the time. One of the hard parts is that I have more time to work on them on either Saturday, Sunday or Monday but I've been trying not to send them on these days. I feel like they are probably more fun and motivating to get if you are about midweek from our next meeting. I also try to wait until after I have weighed in on Tuesday morning so I can tell you about my results. I've decided that in order to be sure I get it done this week, I just need to do it now while I have the chance. I just dropped Ethan off at baseball practice so I have an hour to do this and found some wifi nearby. So in the future you will get these emails when I have time to send them. If you would prefer to open them later in the week, that is certainly the way you can do it. Some weeks I may be able to tell you about this week's weigh-in and other weeks I may have to tell you about last week's weigh-in.
That said, I weigh-in tomorrow morning. I lost .2 last week. I expected more but had to live with what the scale said. That's just life sometimes. It was better than a gain. I've decided that I can no longer use all of my activity points. My body is telling that that enough is enough. I will still use some of them but at this time using all of them is no longer productive for me. I could feel by body doing this for quite some time so it's no surprise. Is is disappointing? Of course, but I'll live. I've been through harder things in my life than losing a few points. It will take some time and restraint to get used to eating fewer points but there was a time in my life when I didn't count or use all of my activity points. I can certainly eat a little less now, too.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE

THIS WEEK - Enjoy Every Bite

I hope you will leave this meeting knowing the "What's in it for me" of mindful eating. We will explore some of the things that get in the way of mindful eating and share ways to eat mindfully consistently.

It's going to be a great meeting so be sure that you are there. If you took last week off for Spring Break remember that the best way to get weight off and keep it off for good is to keep coming to your WW meetings. Don't let that one meeting (or more) spring break turn into more than you had bargained for.

April 4th email

Hello Weight Watchers Friends,

LAST WEEK - The Truth about Food and Fitness

Myths about food and fitness can get in the way of our progress. Finding out the truth helps us focus on the things that will truly impact our goals. We had some great discussion last week about the facts and fiction when it comes to our bodies, weight loss and exercise. I think everyone left feeling confident that they were more aware of their bodies than ever.

ROUTINE OF THE MONTH
Walk at Least 5 Minutes Each Hour: This routine was introduced this week an I will continue to check in with you all month on how your progress is with this routine.

CELEBRATIONS

The 8:00 meeting lost 43.4 pounds. That's .86 pounds per person.
The 9:30 meeting lost 30.2 pounds which was also 1.0 pounds per person. That's such a great, healthy weight loss average. We had great awards to hand out in both meetings too.

Welcome to all of our new members. You will be losing weight to add to those totals soon too. We look forward to seeing you all again next week to join our lively groups.

TRUE CONFESSIONS

I had a good week last week. I lost 1.6 pounds. I'm still doing too much rollercoastering. I'm glad for my loss and want to continue in that direction. I know that even I am not feeling constantly motivated to do all of the right things for my body, I need to stick to my healthy habits whether I am feeling motivated or not. I did that last week and that's why I lost weight. I'm going to keep plugging away. I really need to sleep more. I realize that getting too little sleep is probably my biggest enemy right now. I have a ton of commitments that take up my time so sleep is rare in my life. I feel better when I get more sleep. I exercise harder when I get more sleep. I make better choices when I get more sleep. So my new goal is not related to my weight directly, but my hours of sleep which will impact my sleep indirectly.

THIS WEEK - What's Your Fitness Win?

Celebrations are a must-have in any food and fitness plan We should give ourselves a reason to celebrate and then actually do it! When we celebrate small accomplishments it reinforces repeated behaviors that ultimately help us achieve our greater goals. Come celebrate with us this week!

The Power of Play

TRUE CONFESSIONS

I'm feeling fabulous at this moment. Why? Because I stuck to my points all day. I turned down a roll with my dinner out with girls. I ordered my salad minus the cheese, croutons and chicken salad but added grilled chicken breast. I made great decisions. I've been exercising more than I have in a very long time. I am earning more activity points and making my ActiveLink goal each week. I've owned the ActiveLink for about 6 months and for the first time I am beating my goal week after week. I am feeling fit. My muscles are getting tighter. My arms are flapping as much;) Those are some great successes.

I'm trying to focus on those successes this week because my weigh in was not at all successful. I gained 1.2 pounds. It was frustrating and a huge eye opener. If I want this weight to go, I have to give it my all. I have to stop going over my daily target, weekly target and activity points. To be honest, I used to get away with this behavior and was still able to lose a little bit of weight. It's no longer the case. My body is proving that I need to be more careful. My goal this week is to eat only my target plus my activity points. I know that has been my goal before but it's never to late to set a goal and make it. It's only too late to make that ones that have passed. If I set a new one, it hasn't passed yet. I am truly hoping to report a loss to you next week. If I don't, then I know that I will have to continue to change my habits. As I get older I am finding that there is more to learn about my body. I'm willing to take the time and energy to learn those things.

THIS WEEK - Mix It Up

I promised at last week's meeting that I would remind you in the email to bring in your exercise equipment so here it is. This week we will talk about how to mix it up. If you have any exercise equipment that you are not using at home and would like to temporarily or permanently trade with someone bring it to the meeting on Saturday. It's nice to keep our exercise fun and fresh and this is a great way to do it. You can bring in weights, DVD's, videos, balls, you name it. I would recommend leaving the treadmills at home though;)

The WW email Newsletter

Wow!!! I think this is the longest I've gone without blogging since I started this blog. I don't want to abandon this blog but I just can't seem to find the time to do it all either. Now that I am leading WW meetings, working as a WW Location Coordinator, working at Good Shepherd as CF Admin. Asst., I have simply run out of spare time. I am still doing all of the other stuff too....homeschooling, shuffling kids around, washing a few dishes, folding a little laundry.....you get the point;)

In order to keep this blog going and still keep up (or pretend I'm keeping up) on all of the rest, I have a plan. For those of you on my WW email list, this may not thrill you but it's the best I can do right now. I send out a weekly, WW newsletter email to my members each week. In that email, I talk about our past meeting, upcoming meeting, my own weight loss journey and other stuff. When I send that email out each week, I will copy and paste it here for my blog followers who aren't on my email list. Let me know what you think. If it doesn't work.....well, I don't know......I guess I could give up doing the dishes and laundry;)

Here's this week's email. I hope you find it helpful.

TRUE CONFESSIONS

I went to my meeting on Tuesday and was disappointed by the results. I gained .8 pounds. I had a good week so I was really quite surprised by the gain. Yes, I ate more than I should have but less than I have been. I also earned more Activity Points. I learned a few things from this gain.

First of all, I need to go to my meeting each week. Since I missed my meeting last week, I didn't know if this gain was from last week or this week so I'm not sure what habits I need to change. Secondly, I learned to keep going no matter what. I felt good at my weigh in and really thought I would have lost some weight so I need to keep my momentum with my feelings instead of the number on the scale. Lastly, I learned that I need to stick to my pointsplus target. I ate all of my daily points, all of my activity point and still ate over that too. This week, no matter what I am tempted by, I will not go over those points. I wont know what to change unless I am giving the program and myself 100%.

THIS WEEK - Live Life Active Clubs

On Saturday we will introduce you to our Live Life Active Challenge. It's a great way to keep yourself motivated to move more. You will gain a boost by having partners keep you accountable and help you stay the course. I'm going to ask you to do a little homework. Think about a club that you might want to start with some other members in our meeting room. What would you like others to help you with in regards to activity? We are going to talk about this in the meeting this week and if you have thought about it a little bit ahead of time you may have more ideas in the meeting. If you don't that's no big deal, we will come up with some but I think with a little thinking ahead we will come up with more.

See you Saturday,

My daughter laughed

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! I hope you all had a blessed Christmas. We continue to celebrate Christmas in my family until the Epiphany (January 5th this year). Now it's time for the new year.

I think it's a natural reaction to New Year's for us to reflect on last year (or our life thus far) and make resolutions for the next year. I'm not a huge resolution girl. I never have been. I think it's the word that turns me off. Making a resolution sounds so final. It makes me hesitate because I don't want to resolve to do something that I know I may not do. Because of that attitude, I went for years without making any resolutions at all. Being a Weight Watchers employee changed my mind a few years back. Now, I look forward to reflecting about my life thus far and making some realistic goals for the next year.

Today, my daughter, Gabriella, asked me what my new year's resolution was. Now, there are many things that I could resolve to (or set a goal for). Weight loss, weight maintenance, exercise, more time with my family, more time for myself are just a few that I could choose from. I've thought about it pretty hard because, again, if I am going to set a goal, I want it to be specific and attainable. I could pick any or all of a long list of things but I don't want to overwhelm myself either.

Are you waiting with bated breath?  Okay........I'm going to go to bed earlier. Are you disappointed? Gabriella was. Her response was muffled under her laugh, "What!?" Here's my reasoning. I would like to exercise more. In order to exercise more, I need to be able to get up earlier.  You all know that I recently went back to work for WW. I have been subbing for several meetings as well as leading my meetings at Shorewood Riverclub on Saturday mornings. What many of you don't know is that a month ago, I also started working for my church, Good Shepherd Catholic Church. I am the Christian Formation Administrative Assistant. It has been a wonderful job. I am thoroughly enjoying it. It is part-time so I still have time for leading my Saturday WW meetings and being with my family. It has made it hard to fit in exercise though......at least that is what I have been telling myself.

After really looking at my life, I have realized that it is staying up late at night that is really preventing my from exercising. I am too tired to get out of bed in the morning to exercise. I work early in the morning so I really need to get up by 5 to get in a good workout in the morning. Doing the math, that means that I need to make myself a goal to go to bed by 10 each night so I know that I can get up by 5am.

The reason I am picking this one goal as my new year's resolution is because I know that it will impact my whole life positively. I will have more energy because I will get more sleep. I will feel better because I will get more exercise. My clothes will feel better on me because my body will be in better shape. I will be a good example to my children who need to know that exercise is important to their daily lives too. I will want to eat well all day so I can see the true fruits of my labor. I'm sure I could go on telling you of all of the benefits but I think you get the picture.

I'm ready to leave 2013 behind. Although it was a great year with many blessings in my life, it ended with a challenge. I had my first ever car accident on December 30th. I can't wait to get that out of my head and have a great 2014........sleep, exercise, good eating, time with my family, time for myself, health, happiness and all of the many blessings and challenges 2014 will bring along.

I will continue to blog in 2014 too. I know my blogs lately have been few but know that I am always thinking of all of you and appreciate that so many of you read it. I love to hear from people in person, through email and on facebook. It's always so encouraging when someone tells me how they love reading my blog. I truly love writing it too.

Have a great day....and year too!

Corinna
